UNS AWARDED THE ERASMUS CHARTER FOR HIGHER EDUCATION 2021-2027

Published: 24 December 2020

In the latest procedure for awarding the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education, the European Commission made a decision that the University of Novi Sad will be awarded the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education 2021-2027 quality certificate (ECHE), based on the positive evaluation of the application that was submitted earlier this year. Thus, the University gained the right to participate in further funding provided by the European Union through various programmes in the field of higher education.

At the same time, the new Erasmus Charter for the next seven years presents not only a prerequisite for future University project applications to participate in various European programmes, but also bears a responsibility of the University to respect the new principles of the Erasmus+ programme.

The successful evaluation of the application for the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education 2021-2027, confirmed that the University of Novi Sad has internal capacities, mechanisms, structures and processes that contribute to achieving the goals of the Erasmus + programme. Furthermore, it also affirmed the institution's readiness for further improvement, especially when it comes to new requirements in the areas of digitalization, environmental protection, inclusiveness and civic activism of the academic community.

The Erasmus+ programme is the largest European programme for financing projects in the field of education and academic mobility. The University of Novi Sad received the first Erasmus Charter for Higher Education in October 2018, and it referred to the period until 2020. The first ECHE was a prerequisite for further participation of the University in the Erasmus + programme at the time, in the light of the then newly acquired status of the Republic of Serbia as a Programme Country in the Erasmus+.

The Erasmus Charter for Higher Education describes the basic principles that every higher education institution must respect when applying for projects or carrying out project activities within the entire Erasmus+ programme of the European Commission. The goal of the Erasmus Charter is to raise the quality of academic mobility, university and faculty services, as well as the capacity to manage international projects. It also serves as a mechanism to measure and improve the quality of the activities of higher education institutions in this domain.
